This weekend try a classic: The GODFATHER cocktail from WhiskEy Cocktails with Brian Van Flandern

The GODFATHER’s cocktail origins are somewhat in dispute. However the most popular version is that is was created in the 1970’s after the release of the movie by the same name. According to Disarrono the cocktail was Marlon Brando’s favorite drink. Amaretto is an Italian almond liqueur flavored with Apricot Stones. When properly balanced (especially with an authentic Amaretto) it is a phenomenal libation. Enjoy one tonight!!

Discover the amazing GOLDEN SPIKE cocktail with Brian Van Flandern from WhiskEy Cocktails

The transcontinental railroad, first connected the East and West coast of the United States. Largely built by Chinese immigrants, it was completed in the Spring of 1869. The “last spike” was made of solid gold and driven in with great fanfare. The Golden Spike cocktail commemorates this historic moment by utilizing James F.C. Hyde Sorghum Whiskey. Sorghum, a superior grain to wheat or corn, originally from China was planted all across the nation by the same immigrants who built the railroad. This variation on a classic Manhattan cocktail will be your new favorite… ENJOY!

Enjoy a Clara Bow cocktail this weekend from WhiskEy Cocktails by Brian Van Flandern

The Origins of mixologist Lynnette Marrero’s Clara Bow Cocktail

Clara Gordon Bow (July 29, 1905 – September 27, 1965) was an American actress who rose to stardom during the silent film era of the 1920s. Clara came to personify the roaring twenties and is described as its leading sex symbol!

The Clara Bow is inspired by the New York Sour, an early twentieth-century cocktail that features a float of red or port wine on top of a classic Whiskey Sour. Mixologist Lynnette Marrero developed this cocktail alongside bartender Jim Kearns as an evocation of the speakeasies of the Prohibition era, back when bartenders resorted to using a combination of whatever sweeteners were on hand to mask the taste of spirits with questionable quality.

CLARA BOW

1¼ oz Blanton’s Single Barrel bourbon
¾ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ oz grenadine (50 percent pomegranate juice, 50 percent simple syrup)
½ oz St. Germain

4–5 mint leaves, muddled

Glassware: Coupe

Garnish: Mint sprig, cherries

Method: Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin. Muddle the mint. Add large cubes of ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into the serving glass, garnish, and serve.
